For the next few days, a group of determined London firefighters will be able to look out over one of the best views downtown.
Eight members of the London Professional Fire Fighters Association LPFFA are spending three days perched on top of the Covent Garden Market, participating in the third annual, 72 Hour Roof Top Camp Out for Muscular Dystrophy.
Organizer Tom Nicholson was on hand at noon Thursday Feb. 28 as the eight assembled their tent and set up camp at the market. He said the goal of the event is to both raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Canada and increase awareness for people living with neuro-muscular disorders. Pointing out that all eight of the firefighters were volunteering on their days off, Nicholson said living in a tent, out in the elements for three days, makes for a very long 72 hours.
Last year, the event raised more than $14,000 and this time around, Nicholson said they have set a goal of $20,000.
“We are hoping for good weather and that we get lots of people down here at the market and to throw money in our boot.”
For those that can’t get out the Covent Garden Market in the next three days but would like to make a donation, they can also donate online by visiting the Muscular Dystrophy Canada website, www.muscle.ca and follow the links.
