London Fire Fighters will be climbing the height of Mount Everest this weekend.

Around 40 members from the department will be putting on a show for visitors to the Covent Garden Market, all to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy.

“They wanted the new fire recruits to be exposed to another part of our jobs which is giving back to the community,” says local fire fighter Tom Nicholson. “We are going to spend the day climbing the ladder one at a time. We are going to climb the ladder 11 hundred times to make the equivalent height of Mount Everest”.

The 8 metre tall ladder will go up to the balcony by the front door of the market. Once climbing the ladder, participants will walk around back to the base of the ladder.

The climb starts Saturday morning at 8. Members of the fire department expect the climb to last around 6 hours. By the end, the group will have climbed a total of 8,800 metres.

Residents are asked to show their support by dropping off monetary donations for Muscular Dystrophy and food donations for the London Food Bank.
