A United States Coast Guard Helicopter hovers above the Thames River near the Clarke Road bridge, March 13, 1977. A rescuebasket was lowered to retreive two men who clung to trees after their canoe capsized in the fast-moving floodwaters. The helicopter also rescued firefighter Ken Gilders who was hanging on to a tree downstream after he was dumped in the water during an attempt to rescue the canoeists.
