A house fire in Lambeth on Wednesday claimed the lives of two pet dogs, while causing extensive damage to the home.

London firefighters were called to the scene on Campbell Street, just off Wharncliffe as it turns into Main St., around 4 p.m.

Investigators say the blaze broke out inside one of two units in the house. The lone occupant managed to safely escape, and call 9-1-1.

Unfortunately, two dogs were killed in the fire.

Officials say there were complications battling the flames because of the home’s layout.

It’s not clear exactly how much damage was done, or what sparked the blaze.

Investigators were expected to return to the scene on Thursday.
