London fire fighters had to battle both flames and cold temperatures Tuesday night as they responded to a house fire in the White Oaks area.
Fire crews say it was shortly after 10 p.m. when they received a call about a basement fire on Beechmount Crescent, just off of Jalna Boulevard. The flames are believed to have started in a fireplace and spread up the chimney and into the home’s walls.
Fire fighters were able to quickly douse the blaze, but the operation did have its challenges. Crews had to contend with freezing water hoses and other equipment thanks to the frigid weather.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, but officials say one of the home’s residents was transported to hospital for treatment of an asthma-related issue.
The initial damage estimate from the blaze is pegged at $35,000.
