Ontario Fire Marshall Investigating Suspicious Restaurant Fire

London Police and the Ontario Fire Marshall are probing a suspicious fire at a restaurant in the city’s southeast end.

Fire crews were called out to the scene at Sonice Caribbean restaurant on King Edward Ave shortly after 6 am Sunday morning.

Fire Prevention Inspector Brent Smith tells AM980 the front window and door to the establishment had been broken.

“This is being investigated as a suspicious fire, due to the fact that there was forced entry, and we did have two seperate and distinct fires within the same building. We did, as part of the investigation, recover an incendiary device, which would lead us to believe the fire was intentionally set,” he said.

Smith says thankfully, “there was no issues with controlling the fire. They extinguished the fire very quickly, and of course preserved the scene for our investigation.”

Damage is pegged at $50,000. No one was in the restaurant at the time of the blaze.

Anyone with information is asked to contact London police or Crimestoppers.
