Two cars and a fence were damaged during an early morning fire in Byron.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Blue Ridge Crescent, a short drive from Boler Mountain, around 5 a.m. Monday morning.

When firefighters arrived they found one car in the driveway fully engulfed in flames – it then spread to a nearby fence and a neighbour’s car.

District Fire Chief Tom Wells says the flames could be seen throughout the entire neighbourhood.

“All the people in the neighbourhood called it in. Neighbours were knocking on doors; the owner was woken up by a ‘pop’ sound of hearing the fire burning so they were awakened as well.”

It isn’t known what started the fire. No one was injured, but damage is estimated at between $30,000-$35,000.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but Wells says it could have been much worse.

“It was very close to the house; this could have spread up into the garage area and started the house on fire with the occupants inside. The gas tank didn’t ignite at all; the fire was limited to the interior of the car.”

Police tape currently surrounds the house, and London Police remain at the scene.
