London firefighters were called to 100 Huxley St. Tuesday afternoon after a kitchen was set ablaze.

In a southwest apartment, at about 3 p.m., unattended cooking oil caused a costly fire estimated at $50,000.

“The occupant was lucky to have escaped this fire,” platoon chief Paul Carew said.

The fire’s trail did not exceed the kitchen, as damage was only inflicted upon the cooking area.

Fire officials remind the public that eaving anything on the stove unattended is extremely dangerous.
