Damage is estimated at about $2 million after an early morning blaze tore through a building at an east-end business Friday morning.
London firefighters were called to a fire at 172 Roberts Ave., just east of Rectory Street, at about 5:15 a.m., platoon chief David Hood said.
“Upon arrival, the incident commander immediately asked for additional units because of the size of the structure,” he said Friday morning. “It’s a complete loss.”
Fire crews attacked the flames using what they called a defensive strategy and used aerial equipment to help contain the flames. About 30 firefighters were called to the scene, Hood said.
No injuries have been reported, Hood said, but firefighters arriving at the scene were unable to search the building because of the flames. Fire investigators were planning to search the building when it’s safe to do so, likely later Friday, Hood said.
The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal will be notified, Hood said.
“The fire marshal’s office will determine whether they will attend or not,” he said. “Depending on the circumstances, they may or may not attend.”
Fire crews and London police remained on scene throughout Friday morning. Firefighters were putting out spot fires and making sure the fire was fully extinguished Friday, Hood said.
The cause of the early morning fire has not yet been determined, Hood said.
