A fire that caused $100,000 damage to a nine-storey apartment building near London’s Old East Village is believed to have been intentionally set.
London firefighters were called to the blaze at 580 Dundas Street, west of Adelaide Street around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. Crews arrived to find fire inside of a sixth floor unit. They forced their way in and extinguished the flames.
The building, which is owned by London & Middlesex Community Housing, was evacuated as a precaution. Smoke had to be vented from the building before residents were allowed back inside.
No injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation, but London police confirmed it to be an arson on Monday.
