The 100TH anniversary of Fire Prevention Week runs from October 9-15, 2022 and the London Fire Department is urging everyone in the city of London to “Plan a Record-Breaking Escape!”
By law, every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey, and outside all sleeping areas. While Ontarians can appreciate and understand the importance of these working smoke alarms in the home, the question remains: do you know what to do once the smoke alarm sounds?
“I’m challenging everyone in the city to plan their record-breaking escape,” said Deputy Fire Chief Matt Hepditch. “Planning and regularly practicing your home fire escape plan is crucial in calmly and safely escaping in the case of a fire in your home.”
Once you’ve planned your safe routes out with your family, take a photo with your completed plan from your safe meeting spot and share it on social media using #ONRecordEscape and @ldnontfire, challenging three others to do the same. Planning and regularly practicing your home fire escape plan is the best way to ensure you’re prepared for a safe escape in an emergency once the smoke alarm sounds.
