London firefighters are urging homeowners to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms this Daylight Savings.
“Maintaining working smoke alarms on every storey of a home and near all sleeping areas is the law,” a press release from the London Fire Department said Friday.
“In order to survive a fire, occupants need to be provided with early warning and know what to do when the smoke alarms sound,” the release said.
Almost one in three fires in Ontario between 2011 and 2015 that resulted in injury or damage to the building had no working smoke alarms, according numbers from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
