Cooking Fire Causes Extensive Damage at Oxford St. Home

A cooking fire sent one person to hospital and caused extensive damage to a home west of downtown London Tuesday night.

London Firefighters were called to 87 Oxford St., just west of Wharncliffe Rd. at around 7:12 p.m. to reports of a house fire.

Upon arrival, crews were met with fire and smoke coming from a two-storey home. They were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

Fire officials say one occupant was sent to hospital for assessment.

While the fire remains under investigation, it was determined the cause was unattended cooking oil.

Damage is estimated to be around $150,000.
