Thankfully no one was injured, but a fire Thursday night in the Argyle area has destroyed a woman’s home.

London Fire crews were called to Royal Crescent, near Clarke Road and Wavell St., shortly after 6 p.m.

“When we arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the house, and flames and fire were occurring in a breezeway that was connected between the house and the garage and we had to go on the offensive to put the fire out,” said Platoon Chief Kirk Loveland.

Loveland says the woman who lived at the house heard some kind of explosion and called 9-1-1.

A police officer was first on scene and helped her get out safely.

“The fire was probably under control within about 20 minutes, however, fire crews were on scene for about four hours last night (Thursday), conducting overhaul to make sure all of the fires were extinguished,” said Loveland.

Damage is estimated to be around $200,000.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. It is not considered suspicious.
