Dozens of people have been displaced, and nearly two dozen apartments have been damaged following an early morning fire in the Glen Cairn area.
Emergency officials responded to the blaze at 352 Westlake St., near Thompson Rd. and King Edward Ave., at approximately 5:12 a.m. Saturday after a resident called 911 from a pay phone outside.
All occupants were evacuated from the three-storey walkup building, although one resident was transported to hospital by EMS for treatment of minor injuries.
Approximately 22 apartments were damaged, and between 35 and 40 people were displaced. Emergency Management London has secured temporary shelter for those who aren’t already staying with family or friends.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and while it is not considered suspicious — members of the London Police Service and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office remain at the scene.
A damage estimate has also not been determined.
