Damage is estimated at $500,000 after Police say a fire hose was activated in the stairwell of a highrise condo building in downtown London.
Police responded to the Renaissance II at 330 Ridout Street North around 1:20 a.m. Sunday to assist members of the London Fire Department.
According to investigators, an intoxicated male had activated a fire hose in the building, and water damaged was reported to numerous floors within the 28-storey building.
There was large amounts of water pouring down the stairwell.
A 20-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene — fire hose still in hand — and charged with mischief over $5,000, and being intoxicated in a common area.
Nobody was injured
The highrise, owned by Tricar, was completed in April 2013 and features 198 condo units. Prices range from $200,000 to $1.4-million.
In an unrelated matter, Police were called to a building at 345 Wharncliffe Road North in regards to flooding inside that building.
Investigators determined piping for the sprinkler system had been tampered with, and charged a 25-year-old man with mischief over $5,000.
Damage in that incident is estimated at approximately $10,000.
