Police Suspect Arson Following Fire At Downtown Car Dealership

London Police have one suspect in custody following a vehicle fire at a downtown car dealership late Wednesday night.

“We had an officer driving down York Street last night, shortly after 11 o’clock and noticed a vehicle on fire at Piccadilly Motors,” said Media Officer Ken Steeves.

“We attended, and through our investigation we were able to identify a person who was likely responsible for the fire.”

Piccadilly Motors is located at 470 York Street at the corner of Maitland Street.

Steeves says they arrested a man and a woman a short time later, but the female suspect has since been released. Police say charges are pending for the male suspect.

“We are continuing with the investigation to determine what involvement either, and or both, had in relation to the fire,” said Steeves.

A 1999 BMW 325 convertible was destroyed, along with damage to vehicles on either side of it.

Damage is estimated at $24,000.

The dealership will be operating business as usual as the investigation continues.
