London Police remain at the scene of a blaze at an abandoned home on the southern outskirts of the city, deemed “suspicious” by investigators.
London Firefighters were called to a fully engulfed home on Manning Drive, west of White Oak Road, just after 9 p.m. Thursday.
District Fire Chief Kirk Loveland tells AM980 the two-storey house was abandoned.
“It was vacant, and our concern was the structural integrity of the home with the conditions of the fire,” said Loveland.
“We were defensive and extinguished the fire.”
Their mission was made more difficult because there were no hydrants near the home.
“We responded and had to set up water tankers that bring in water from the hydrants because there were no hydrants in the area,” said Loveland.
The house is a total loss, and an early estimate pegs the damage at $50,000.
No injuries were reported.
