The cause of a blaze at a Westmount-area home Friday is under investigation by London Fire officials.
Emergency crews were called to a single-story detached home at 687 Butler Ave. around 8 p.m. Friday, after neighbours in the area reported seeing smoke coming from the home, and heard alarms going off at the address.
Crews were able to put out the blaze in just under 20 minutes. Damage to the house was extensive.
“There’s smoke damage throughout, and a little bit of structural damage on the interior,” said Acting District Fire Chief Ross Smith. “The domestic water lines had melted due to the heat of the fire, and there was substantial water in the basement area.”
A damage estimate has been pegged at around $100,000.
No one was in the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were been reported.
Smith says at one point, 24 fire personnel were on scene fighting the flames.
The investigation is ongoing. It’s unclear whether the Ontario Fire Marshall will be looking into the blaze, or if the fire is considered suspicious.
