London emergency crews are on the scene of an apparent barn fire on Old Victoria Rd., south of Hwy 401.
Fire officials tell AM980 they received a call to respond to a property around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday. London Police said the blaze was on a dairy farm property.
There’s no word on the extent of the damage at this time or possible injuries.
The OPP has confirmed to AM980 that officers have shut down the eastbound and westbound lanes of Hwy 401 between Highbury Ave. and Old Victoria Rd. and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Cst. Laurie Houghton of the Middlesex OPP says there are concerns that heavy wires from a neighbouring communications tower could fall across the lanes of the highway.
The stretch of road is expected to remain closed for several more hours.
A citizen reporter also says smoke from the fire was drifting onto the highway, impairing visibility earlier in the evening.
More to come.
