One person was rescued from a second floor balcony as London firefighters battled a late night blaze in the Wortley area.

The fire broke out inside a bedroom on the main floor of a home on Elmwood Ave., which has been converted into apartments, around 11 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters rescued one resident who could not get out of the home safely because of thick smoke in the stairwell. Everyone else inside was able to make it out safely.

No one was injured.

At this point, it’s not clear what caused the fire, but it’s not considered suspicious.

There’s no damage estimate either.

A fire inspector is likely to be back at the scene later Tuesday to resume the investigation.
