London fire crews made quick work of a fire in a plaza in the city’s southeast end Wednesday afternoon.
Crews were called around 1:54 p.m. to 1086 Commissioners Rd. East to reports of a blaze in a restaurant.
When crews made their way inside, they found a deep fryer had caught fire.
Public Information Coordinator Rick Jefferson says fire fighters used three fire extinguishers to tame the flames before they found a pizza pan that covered the fryer and cut off the supply of oxygen, effectively smothering the blaze.
Crews remained on scene to watch for any flare-ups and ventilated the business to get rid of the smoke.
Jefferson says no injuries were reported. A firm damage estimate is not available, but Jefferson says because the flames were contained to the fryer, it’s expected to be minor.
Jefferson also credits the minimal damage to the fast response from fire crews. They were able to get to the scene in under three minutes because Fire Station #5 is under a block away from the scene at Commissioners Rd. East and Deveron Crescent.
