A crash between a crane and a minivan in east London sent two people to hospital on Wednesday, one of whom suffered life threatening injuries.
London Police were called to the scene on Clarke Road north of Parkhurst Ave shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Police say a minivan was travelling northbound on Clarke when it crossed the centre-line colliding with a 50 tonne crane that was headed southbound.
A tethered wrecking ball smashed into the van, ripping through its roof.
The driver, described only as an elderly man, suffered life threatening injuries. His passenger, an elderly woman, was also taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the crane wasn’t injured.
A section of Clarke Road was closed for several hours Wednesday while police investigated, but has since re-opened.
No charges have been laid.
