Overnight thunderstorms may be to blame for an early morning fire at a vacant building up for lease in east London.

Emergency crews were called out to 2010 Oxford St. E, near Clarke Road, just before 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The blaze was extinguished about an hour later, and no injuries were reported.

Despite the fact the building is vacant, arson is not suspected.

“My thought was the storm last night. It was a pretty good storm. One of the breakers on the hydro pole has been trimmed so it’s undetermined at this time, but it possibly could be electrical or it could be the storm.” Platoon Chief Tom Mathers told AM980.

Oxford Street East was closed in both directions between Clarke Road and Industrial Road, but the area has since reopened to traffic.
