An overnight fire has destroyed a home of a soon-to-be-married couple in the Huron-Heights area of London.

Emergency crews were called to 39 Cayuga Cres. at 12:28 a.m. Sunday.

Once on scene, heavy smoke and flames were seen ripping through the roof of the home.

Neighbours pounded on the door to alert the two occupants of the house; they were able to get out safely.

Fire officials believe they had working smoke alarms at the time of the blaze.

The fire reportedly began in the upper part of the two storey detached house and worked its way down, completely destroying the roof and causing smoke damage throughout the home.

Structural damage was also done to the second storey walls.

In addition to losing a home they were renovating, the couple also lost the majority of their wedding presents, which were being stored upstairs.

Luckily, nobody was hurt.

Damage is pegged at $150,000.

The investigation continues.
