Teen a hero after saving wheelchair-bound man from Thames River
LONDON, Ont. – A 15-year-old boy is being hailed for saving a wheelchair-bound man in London from a life-threatening situation.
The fire department says the man had rolled into a river’s edge in Harris Park to feed some birds along the bank, but the water was deeper than expected.
The wheelchair slid into deeper water above the seat level and got stuck.
Evan Spindler saw the man in distress from his house, ran over and was able to pull the wheelchair onto dry land and push it back to street level.
Both the London fire and police departments say their water rescue crews “highly commend the actions of the young teen.”
The man in the chair refused medical assistance and was taken home by police.
