There was over $100,000 in damages after an apartment fire in the city’s northeast end on Saturday.
It around 3:00 p.m. when fire crews responded to the scene on Adelaide Street just north of Huron Street.
When they arrived, crews say they found black smoke coming out of an apartment on the 6th floor of a highrise building.
“When fire crews arrived they quickly went up to the 6th floor. There was light to medium smoke in the hallway. When they went into the apartment they encountered very heavy black smoke, heat and found a fire in the bedroom,” said Platoon Chief Jeff Adams.
Adams says that some people were evacuated from the building. The older couple who lived in the apartment were able to get out before sustaining any injuries.
The fire was successfully extinguished.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated but it is not considered suspicious.
