London firefighters ripped the roof vents off of a house at 6 Cornerbrook Ave. to help ventilate the house after a basement fire Tuesday Feb 12, 2013 morning.

Christian Moniz, who was in the house, said the smoke alarm was going off while he was getting dressed. When he went downstairs he saw flames so he retreated to the main floor to dial 911. With the house rapidly filling with smoke, he ran outside with his dog and other pets but no shirt or shoes.

His neighbours quickly offered him shoes, shirt and a coat as he waited for the fire department to arrive.District Fire Chief Daryl Stephenson said the cause of the fire was unknown and they would be investigating the cause.

Stephenson said the fire spread to up the wall to the main floor of the home.
