Product description

This recall involves Kidde dual sensor smoke alarms with model PI2000CA. The alarms can be identified by two buttons, “HUSH” and “PUSH AND HOLD TO TEST WEEKLY”, which are located on the front center of the alarm. The model number and date code are on the back of the smoke alarm.

Only date codes 2009 Jan 01 through 2009 May 04 are included in this recall.

Hazard identified

An electrostatic discharge can damage the unit, preventing the alarm from warning consumers in the case of smoke or fire.

Kidde Canada Inc. has received two reported incidents of alarm unit malfunctions involving electrostatic discharge during installation, with no reported injuries.

Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries or incidents related to the use of these alarms.

Number sold

Approximately 10 000 of the recalled smoke alarms were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled smoke alarms were sold from March 2009 to May 2009.
