London fire officials say a blaze in a rented shop on Egerton Street caused about $100,000 in damage.

Crews were called to the private building at 296 Egerton Street around 7 p.m. Saturday to reports of smoke coming from a car that was being worked on in the shop. When they arrived on scene, officials say the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

They were able to douse the fire and leave the scene within two hours, and while there were no injuries there was extensive damage. Officials say the car is essentially a write-off, another vehicle parked next to it may have been affected and the shop space next door likely has smoke damage.

Fire crews say it’s quite possible the steel building also sustained structural damage.

Officials say the cause of the blaze is considered accidental. They say it’s likely the flames were sparked by work being done on the vehicle.
