A garbage fire outside a variety store is being described as a “deliberate arson”.
At around three o’clock Sunday morning, fire crews were called to the area of Colborne Street at Piccadilly Street.
When crews arrived on scene, the fire was fully involved and flames had spread to the eaves of the building, threatening the apartments above the variety store.
Officials report that at the time of the blaze, crews were responding to an unusually high amount of fires.
As a result, resources were spread thin and the fire took a little longer than usual to extinguish.
Damage is estimated at $10,000 and the investigation is ongoing.
