London firefighters examine the damage an afternoon fire caused to a first-floor apartment at 110 Cherryhill Circle on Wednesday (June 20).

A woman had to be plucked by firefighters from the balcony of her first-floor apartment in a high-rise at 110 Cherryhill Circle after a fire broke out in her unit just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday (June 20).

Chief Tom Mathers of the London Fire Department said the woman may have suffered some smoke inhalation and was taken to Victoria Hospital.

He said the cause of the fire was under investigation and would not comment on where in the heavily damaged apartment the blaze may have started.

He estimated the damage from the fire, however, at $40,000.

Six department units responded to the fire, Mathers said, and no other apartments in the building were damaged.

No one else was injured.
