A passerby reported a fire at Curry’s restaurant at around 6 a.m. this morning (May 2).
A local eatery will be out of commission for a few weeks after a small fire resulted in heavy smoke damage.
London Fire Department received a call Wednesday morning around 6 a.m. from a passerby who had smelled fire and noticed a little bit of smoke coming out of the eaves of the Curry’s restaurant on Wellington St.
“When we made entry, we found the interior of the restaurant heavily loaded with smoke,” said District Chief Wayne Brown at the scene.
Eighteen firefighters responded to the call, which Brown credits for getting the fire under control so quickly.
Pramod Kukadia, the owner of Curry’s, received a call from fire officials around 6:30 a.m.
“It’s a bit scary to get called up like that in the morning,” he said, adding he hasn’t been able to get inside the restaurant to survey the damage yet.
Brown believes it will be a couple of weeks before the restaurant will be able to re-open due to the extensive smoke damage inside.
Investigators don’t know the cause of the fire yet, but an investigation is underway.
