A London mother is being treated in hospital for smoke inhalation following a fire at a townhouse on Southdale Road East.

It broke out around 3 p.m Monday inside the residence on Southdale Road near Millbank Drive.

A mother and three children were home at the time, but they managed to escape safely.

“We had a small bedroom fire apparently started from a candle,” said Jeff Adams, District fire chief.

“The mother made the attempt to put the fire out with an extinguisher and she did have some inhalation. She was transported to hospital for observation,” added Adams.

Damage is estimated at upwards of $50,000.

Adams says there is nothing suspicious about the fire and this incident serves as a reminder to always monitor lit candles.
