Hwy. 401 east was shut down Thursday night between Colonel Talbot Road and Wellington Road, after a crash between a tractor-trailer and small car sent a London man to hospital.

An orange Hyundai Accent car was eastbound on Hwy. 401 in the passing lane, when it lost control and struck the concrete median, said Middlesex OPP.

It then struck a white Freightliner transport truck which was travelling eastbound in the outside lane. The Hyundai rolled over and came to rest in the middle of the road.

The driver and lone occupant of the Hyundai, a 16-year-old male from London, was transported by ambulance to London Health Sciences Centre Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the Freightliner, a 47-year-old male from Middlesex Centre, was not injured. The London Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 between Colonel Talbot Road and Wellington Road were closed for approximately 45 minutes.
