Honouring fire department traditions, London Ward 7 Councillor Matt Brown and County of Middlesex Warden Joanne Vanderheyden, connect two fire hoses, officially opening the new London Fire Department/Middlesex London EMS Station 14 on Friday (Oct. 21).
This new 8,500 square-foot facility located at 2225 Hyde Park Rd., just north of Fanshawe Road, was a joint venture between the City of London and Middlesex County. Total project cost for the station was $2.35 million and that amount that was shared between the two municipalities — 60 per cent ($1.3 million) city, 40 per cent ($1.05 million) county.
In operation since March of this year, the station is the first of its kind in London, bringing both EMS and fire services together under one roof. Its location was chosen with the goal of helping to ensuring community safety and decreasing response times to this rapidly growing area.
