London police and firefighters are searching for firearms after an incident in the city’s northeast end early Wednesday.

Officers responded to a call around 7:30 a.m. near Kipps Lane and Adelaide St. where a witness saw a man walking in the area of Country Lane with a firearm, described as a sawed-off rifle. Witnesses said they saw as many as 11 police cruisers swarm the area by the nearby bridge.

Police located the man near Adelaide St., where he was arrested. He didn’t have the shotgun with him at the time.

A canine unit conducted a search of the area before the marine unit of the London fire department arrived to search the water for the weapon. Police have also secured a nearby residence and are getting a search warrant to look for additional weapons.

There we no injuries and there is no cause for concern for residents in the area, said Const. Dennis Rivest.
