London police and fire officials desperately searched a portion of the Thames river after a 30-year-old London man fell into the water yesterday afternoon.

Police were called by a witness who saw the man go over the edge. London police Staff Sgt. Tom Gaffney told AM980 how the man fell in.

“At about 3:40 (yester-day) afternoon there was three gentleman drinking right along the river’s edge, just west of the Carfrae Street bridge on the north side of the river. One of the man fell into the water and was immediately with the swift current being swept down the river to the west.”

London fire search and rescue boats continued to patrol the cold, fast moving water. Police, EMS and fire officials were also staged along the river from Ridout to Wonderland.

A wallet had reportedly been found floating in the river near the Wharncliffe Road bridge.

A name of the victim will not be released until next of kin are notified.
