A London man who walked away unscathed after his pickup truck collided with a VIA train at a level crossing on Gore Road last month faces criminal charges.

Darryl Gowers, 29, is charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and driving during a license suspension, London police said yesterday.

The charges result from the Dec. 27 crash in which Gowers’ truck collided with and was dragged by, a six-car VIA train carrying 293 passengers.

A passenger in Gowers’ pickup, who police have not identified, remains in critical condition in hospital.

Witnesses told police the flashing lights were working and the gates were lowered when the collision occurred.
