Ann Brooks turns to her husband for support as they watch firefighters, at left, work on their Woodhaven Road home in northeast London Tuesday after gutted the two-car garage and danged the rooms above. Both were at work when the blaze started, their son David was in the backyard studying for Grade 13 exams at Oakridge Secondary School.

District Chief Bill Barbour said when firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring out of the garage and up the side of the house.
