The old is giving way to the new in London, despite protests from supporters of the old and objectors to the new. Construction has begun in the Westmount area, on Comissioners Road just west of Wonderland Road for the new, $267,000 Fire Station No. 3, which will replace the old station on Bruce Street. Neighbors of the 90-year-old station say they are afraid protection of their South London homes will become inadequate. Residents near the site of the new station raised a protest which ended in an Ontario Municipal Board hearing last fall. The OMB decided the new station would not offend the surrounding residential atmosphere. A modern, two-storey structure will be built. Fate of the old building has not been decided.
