Fire Chief Robert Barr

(1983-1991)

Robert Barr was born and raised in London. He attended the Gravenhurst Fire College before joining the London Fire Department in 1955 following the career path of his father Andrew Barr served three years as assistant training officer tor the department. He was appointed acting deputy chief in 1981, acting chief in 1982 and became fire chief the following year. Chief Barr was instrumental in procuring improved bunker gear for London’s firefighters. He retired in 1991 after nearly 36 years of service. Chief Barr died in 2000. His son David became a firefighter and two of his son-in-laws are in the fire service. Deputy Fire Chief John Kobarda said his father in-law was always a perfectionist and expected a lot of himself and others.
