Fire Chief Charles Jenner

(1927-1928)

Charles E. Jenner was born in Wales. He fought for three years in the Boer War then became a builder. He moved to Canada in 1903 and found work in his trade in Winnipeg. Two years later he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department, rising to the position of lieutenant of its aerial division.

Jenner was hired in 1919 to head the fire department in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. His achievements out west were noted in London when he was hired as Chief John Aitken’s replacement. Chief Jenner’s service with the London Fire Department was brief. Twenty months after he was hired, Chief Jenner resigned in controversy never to he heard from again in London.
