Some residents are being allowed  to retrieve necessities from their apartments after a massive fire ripped through a complex on Adelaide St. over the weekend.

Flames tore through the 42-unit property between Oxford and Cheapside Streets early Saturday morning. The property management company estimates there are just over 100 residents who have been displaced because of the fire with many staying with friends and family. Others are staying at local hotels paid for by the City of London, but that accommodation plan ends on Thursday according to officials.

The property management company tells AM980 one of the buildings will have to be gutted because of the damage caused by the fire. It’s unclear what will happen to the second apartment building that was also heavily damaged, but residents will not be able to return permanently for the foreseeable future.

Damage to the first building is estimated to be between $1 million and $2 million, but an estimate for the second building hasn’t been calculated yet.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
