Two property management companies and the owner of a local restaurant have been slapped with sizeable fines after London Fire Department took them to provincial court over fire code violations.

Terra Corp. Management Inc. was ordered to pay $50,000 in fines for a number of violations found at four apartment buildings on Huron St. Transglobe Property Management Services Ltd. must pay $20,000 for violations at three buildings on Kipps Lane, and Marino’s Pizzeria and Bar was assessed $31,000 in fines. The Fire Code violations were found through the course of scheduled inspections.

Fire Chief John Kobarda said in a release that businesses need to respect the law and ensure the safety of everyone.

“These significant fines demonstrate the commitment by the London Fire Department, the provincial Courts and the Province of Ontario toward making the province and the City of London fire safe. While some of the companies are larger corporations, many smaller businesses believe that the violations found during inspections conducted by the London Fire Department are based on department or municipal policies and rules.”
