London firefighters will be rolling up their sleeves and getting the soap buckets out for the 12th annual Dreams Take Flight Car Wash and BBQ on Saturday.
Phill King, treasurer of the London Professional Fire Fighters Association, said for the last 12 years they’ve teamed up with Air Canada to send four kids selected by the Boys and Girls Club of London to Disney World.
“These are kids that otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to go,” said King. “The kids don’t forget. It’s a life-alternating experience for them.”
King said starting last year Air Canada now sends one plane instead of two.
Since they had four kids on last years’ Dreams Take Flight trip, they can send kids next year. This year’s car wash is about raising the funds.
King said they hope to raise about $2,000.
“We’re hoping to wash between 200 and 300 cars,” said King. “The more money we raise the more money we get to put back into the community.”
From 9 p.m. until 3 p.m., Londoners can experience a firefighter-themed car wash.
Vehicles are pre-rinsed by the nozzle of London Fire Department Aerial Truck #2. Then cars are washed in the fire hall by volunteers. As vehicles exit the hall, they’re rinsed off by fire hoses.
King said it’s the Dreams Take Flight Car Wash and BBQ is a great place to bring your family.
“It’s really become quite a family affair. My family is always involved and has been since we started,” said King.
