A firefighter carried a man down 11 floors following a blaze Monday afternoon at a Simcoe St. apartment building.

The man was taken away on a stretcher. His identity wasn’t released.

Though onlookers believed he was in serious condition, the man was suffering from smoke inhalation and minor injuries and burns, said Michael Hurst of Middlesex London EMS.

The fire that started in the man’s living room, likely near the couch, was contained within the 11th floor apartment and caused roughly $10,000 damage, said platoon Chief Fritz Beck of the London fire department.

The building was evacuated while the stretch of Simcoe between Wellington and Clarence streets filled with fire trucks, EMS vehicles and police.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
