With spring finally here, the London Fire Department is reminding people about the rules surrounding outdoor fires.
Recreational burning, such as sitting around a campfire, is allowed between 4 p.m. and midnight, but only using firewood, charcoal or briquettes.
The fires must be small and kept in non-combustible containers, outdoor brick fireplaces, chimineas, metal tubs or fire pits.
Firefighters are asking Londoners to keep brush, branches and other yard waste out of fire pits.
“There are a number of environmentally-friendly options for dealing with yard waste rather than burning it, which is in contravention of the open air burning bylaw,” deputy fire chief Dan Oldridge said in a release.
Also, open air fires aren’t allowed when wind speeds exceed 15 km an hour, when it’s rainy or foggy or on days where a smog alert is issued.
