Fire Chief James Fitzgerald

(1991-1993)

Firefighting was in Jim Fitzgerald’s blood before he joined the fire department in 1955. He became the third generation in his family to become a London firefighter following his grandfather and father. Fitzgerald worked his way through the ranks and after 36 years with the department he was appointed fire chief in 1991. He oversaw the expanded role for the fire department with London’s annexation of the Town of Westminster and other areas of Middlesex County. Chief Fitzgerald ended 38 years of service when he retired rom the fire department in 1993. His son Shawn is a London firefighter as of this writing.

Chief Fitzgerald shared a love for the London Fire Department and its personnel beyond performing his duty.  His passion carried into his personal time collecting and preserving historical items and photos.
