Suspicious fire at abandoned house in Pond Mills

London police and members of the London Fire Department were at the scene Thursday evening of a suspicious fire at an abandoned house.
Police responded to reports of a fire at 4:19 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities said the scene would be held overnight into Friday morning so that arson detectives, as well as the fire inspector, could took a closer look at the isolated property.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and the damage was estimated at $50,000.
Police confirmed to The Free Press later Thursday that the structure is the same cottage that caught fire in a suspicious blaze three years ago. (See articles about fire in 2013)
On June 4, 2013, a patrolling London police officer spotted smoke billowing from the same wooded area at 130 Pond Mills Rd. at Cleveland Ave.
When firefighters arrived, they found the abandoned cottage fully engulfed in flames.
Because there was no electricity at the cottage, that fire, too, was treated as suspicious at that time.
“There’s not a lot to save,” Platoon Chief Wayne Brown told The Free Press back then.
